WSBK, BIAGGI ON APRILIA IS WORLD CHAMPION!

MAX BIAGGI WITH APRILIA FOR THE 2011 AND 2012 SEASONS

Aprilia Racing and Max Biaggi sealed the contract which ties the 2010 World Superbike Champion to the name which has seen him triumph from his début in the 250 Moto GP class.

Thanks to this agreement, which is valid for two years, Max Biaggi and Aprilia will be able to team up together to defend the Rider and Manufacturer titles earned this year. In fact, 2010 was an extraordinary year in sport for the Biaggi-Aprilia duo in World SBK: ten victories, four double wins and another four podiums led the five time champion to take the rider world championship (the first Italian in motorcycling history) and Aprilia to its first triumph in the WSBK Manufacturer standings.

With confirmation of the Biaggi-Aprilia association, one of the most victorious pairs in sports history is renewed: Max boasts five world championships in a record time frame, considering the fact that sixteen years have passed since his first 250 world championship and this year's SBK title. Aprilia boasts a collection of 45 world titles and, with 277 victories in GP, it is the most victorious name in the history of Moto GP.

"I'm obviously very happy to be continuing this winning adventure in World SBK with Aprilia" stated Max Biaggi. "After an exciting but tiring season, after many years of racing and many victories, it was only natural and right to stop and think, to reflect on such an important future commitment. And in my considerations a very decisive factor was, as it was at the beginning of this adventure with Aprilia, the fact that I feel so close to a team and a company which is so capable and so focussed on the sports objective. Now we need to prepare as best as we can for next season. We are well aware that we cannot rest on our laurels and that we will be in all of our rivals' sights. But now I am also sure that we will be highly motivated at the start of the first race, with a bike which I have brought up and which I did not want to abandon, ready to die hard... extremely hard".

Introducing the 6 cylinder  K1600GT and K 1600 GTL

Come to the Vancouver Motorcycle show in Jan 20-23 2011 to view the new 6 cylinder  K1600GT and K 1600 GTL

The trend in the tourer segment is demonstrated by the two world premieres BMW K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL, featuring the lightest and most compact 6-cylinder inline engine in series motorcycle production. Weighing in at only 102.6 kg, this engine is fitted in a highly rigid frame of light alloy. With a max. power delivery of 118 kW (160 hp) it opens up new dimensions in riding performance, long distance motorcycling, and comfort. It also provides an impressive answer to the Gran Turismo claim: on the BMW K 1600 GT you can experience dynamic and supreme riding at its purest. And the GTL offers both rider and pillion practical ergonomics that makes travelling such unadulterated luxury. Both machines deliver fascinating acceleration even at low engine speeds, combined with maximum refinement and state-of-the art low fuel consumption. Whether you prefer cruising or sporty motorcycling, the standard BMW Motorrad integral ABS, three riding modes, and the ideally balanced mass concentration of the suspension provide dynamic response combined with a maximum of comfort. Supplemented e.g. with Dynamic Traction Control DTC or Electronic Suspension Adjustment ESA II, the safety concept can also be optimised further with respect to preferred style, road conditions, and loading conditions. The integrated multicontroller simplifies handling in any situation. Shining even more brightly than the rider’s eyes are the standard xenon headlamps, the revolutionary Adaptive Headlight, and the bright TFT colour monitor.

Free ‘Beemer Trivia’ App launched

Do you know which motorcycle brand first featured an integrated fairing, hydraulically damped fork or ABS? Fans of a certain German brand will surely know the answers to the above questions, all of which can be found in Beemer Trivia - a new, free of charge game available now for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Sports fans aren’t the only enthusiasts when it comes to statistics. BMW aficionados are now able to test their BMW motorcycle knowledge and quite possibly learn something new while playing this multiple-choice quiz game.

Each question starts with a full tank of ‘gas’ and players need to choose the correct answer before the fuel runs out. Answer quickly and you rack up more ‘miles’, although questions get progressively more difficult and each wrong answer will remove a helmet from the display. If you make three wrong answers, the ride is over and the game is finished.

There is even a chance to show others just how deep your BMW knowledge base is, as well as challenge your friends, thanks to an optional online leaderboard. Other features include pause and resume buttons (so you can stop and continue anytime); engine, music and other sound effects; or use the integrated iPod controls to listen to your own road music. You can even submit your own questions and answers. The new Beemer Trivia app enhances the BMW riding and ownership experience by learning about the features and history

“BMW riders appreciate the latest in technology, and this new app is a fun way to learn about their favourite brand of motorcycle,” says Sandy Cohen, editor of BMW Motorcycle Magazine, which had the App created and developed. “The App is getting good Internet press and BMW fans seem to really enjoy playing the game, judging from the high scores on the leader board!”

Beemer Trivia is available FREE on the iTunes App store through a sponsorship with BMW Motorcycle Magazine - the quarterly independent magazine for BMW motorcycle enthusiasts. For a limited time, reaching 2,500 “miles” in the game unlocks a promo code for a discount on a subscription to BMW Motorcycle Magazine. To download the App from the iTunes App Store, follow the link below:

Rocky Mountain GS Challenge August 13-14

Canada is the world’s second largest country by total area, so getting BMW fans together for events is never easy, even if they are long-distance riders! For the past few years, there has been an Eastern GS Challenge in Quebec, but a new addition for this year is the Rocky Mountain GS Challenge, which will take place in western Canada in mid-August.

Sponsored by BMW Motorrad Canada, the event is designed to bring together owners of BMW GS machines from western Canada for a weekend of off-road riding, instruction, challenges and entertainment. To promote team spirit, camaraderie and the ability to come away a better rider, so we’ve planned everything from water crossings, to mud, sand and much more! There will be BMW factory trained instructors on hand to give free instruction on off-road riding techniques and to answer any questions. The scenery in the area is beautiful, the trails are awesome and the food will be fantastic – what more could GS riders want?

Although the Rocky Mountain GS Challenge is primarily aimed at BMW GS owners, riders of other brands of adventure motorcycles are welcome to attend and sample the ever-expanding world of BMW Motorrad. Furthermore, as an added incentive for the more experienced riders, the winners of this year’s and next year’s Rocky Mountain GS Challenge will have the opportunity to go ‘head to head’ with the winners of Montreal’s GS Challenge for the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2012 International GS Trophy.

As part of the preparations for what is being described as the area’s biggest enduro event of the year, the organisation team has been busy scouting trails and locations for the Individual and Team Challenge events. According to Rocky Mountain GS Challenge Organizer Wolfgang Simmert, it will be a chance to give riders the opportunity to have a great weekend of fun, but also improve their off-road riding skills at the same time.

“The GS Challenge is an excellent event where, no matter how experienced you are at off-road riding, you will improve your technical riding skills,” he said. “We’ve laid out trails designed for three levels of experience – beginner, intermediate and advanced – and the trails will be used for teaching and practice.”

As well as two days of riding, instruction, individual and team challenges, there will also be plenty of time for socialising by the campfire and swapping adventure stories. On the Saturday evening, Canadian world traveller and author Rene Cormier will speak about his travels in South America, Asia and the Middle East on a BMW F 650 GS. On the Sunday, five finalists will compete to determine the 2010 Rocky Mountain GS Challenge winner.

The two-day Rocky Mountain GS Challenge took place from 13-14 August.

The National Post has posted one of those year-end 'best of' lists... this time for motorcycles.

It states in part "You know it's a different year in motorcycling when the most dramatic new models are from BMW. While other manufacturers are cutting back development on new sportbikes, the German manufacturer, previously known for fast cars and sleepy motorcycles, has unveiled what is possibly the fastest superbike on the planet."
